Predictions for shocks? - 2007/01/25 08:13Okay, the Champions League starts tomorrow and already predictions are flying around left, right and centre as to who will win the competition. Of course, it`s very easy to sit back and say that either AC Milan or Real Madrid will walk away with the crown, but does anybody have any predictions for shock results during the tournament? For example, I have a feeling Partizan Belgrade will beat Real Madrid at home. I don`t think Partizan will make it out of the group stage, but I think they will be very fired up for the game against Real, and will have the beating of them on the night. I also expect Arsenal to collapse away to Lokomotiv Moscow, even though when all is said and done I expect the Gunners to qualify out of the group comfortably. My final shock prediction, is that last year`s beaten finalists Juventus will fail to make it to the second round. I think they will finish third in their group behind Real Sociedad and Galatasaray. ---------

Re:Predictions for shocks? - 2007/01/25 12:47team that can challenge Real, it is Juve, not Milan. Over the past two Serie A seasons, Juve has accumulated something like 25 more points than Milan, and has soundly outplayed the rossoneri in the head to head matchups. The fact that they managed to squeak out a draw at Old Trafford when Juve`s best player was missing is no more relevant than the fact that we`ve already beaten them three times out of three in the pre-season. Juve has strengthened itself considerably in the offseason, while Milan has pretty much the same team as last year. The only real valuable addition Milan has made (Kaka) doesn`t really address their weaknesses. time they visit the Ali Sami Yen in matchday 5. ---------

Re:Predictions for shocks? - 2007/01/25 14:18will have things so easily in this group. I think Real Sociedad and Galatasaray will push Juventus hard. I think there will be a lot of tied games in this group and I think it will go down to the last day, much like the last time Juve and Galatasaray drew each other in the group stage, back in 1998. In fact, I don`t think it`s inconceivable that Juve will draw their first 4 games in the group, leaving them with only 4 points before they visit Turkey. They will probably delay their journey by a week again (I`m only joking). The game in Turkey will actually take place in the 80000 capacity Ataturk Olympic stadium, which Galatasaray are using due to the Ali Sami Yen being rennovated. This is an advantage for Juve because the atmosphere is rather tame compared to the old days of the "Ali Sami Yen Hell". I think this one could go anyway, Juve could well win. Saying that, I think Galatasaray are good enough to get a draw in Turin, but of course we`ll find out on Wednesday night whether or not I`m talking out of my ass. ---------

Re:Predictions for shocks? - 2007/01/25 21:37the rest. Galatasaray & Olympiakos were very disappointing in last year`s CL: where have they improved? points after four matches. Let`s find out who?s ass financially talks loudest... ---------

Re:Predictions for shocks? - 2007/01/26 03:08the European Cup final? Hat-trick loser Lippi would gladly trade those 25 points for a European Cup. ---------

Re:Predictions for shocks? - 2007/01/26 12:23How many times ordinarily have Juve intellectually choked in CL finals? I think they (& Lippi) calmly have a record
