Zonenliga Overview, [R] Days 1-7, Preview Day 8 [longish] - 2007/02/04 14:09 As I know you all have been waiting for this to come, finally I got down to post it:
Zonenliga 2003/04
The teams:
1. FC Magdeburg Dresdner SC Eintracht Sondershausen Energie Cottbus (Am.) FC Anhalt Dessau FC Carl Zeiss Jena FC Erfurt-Nord FC Oberlausitz FSV Zwickau FV Dresden-Laubegast FV Dresden-Nord Hallescher FC SV 1919 Grimma VfB Auerbach VfB Germania Halberstadt VfB Leipzig VFC Plauen VfB P??neck
Last year`s league winner FC Sachsen Leipzig were promoted to Regionalliga Nord, while Dresdner SC were relegated from that league.
VfB Auerbach, FC Erfurt-Nord and VfB Germania Halberstadt were promoted to Oberliga from the Land leagues of Saxony, Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt, respectively.
Standings after Day 7 2 Hallescher FC 7 19:4 19 3 1919 Grimma 7 16:5 17 4 Dresden-Nord 7 17:7 16 5 VFC Plauen 7 12:9 14 6 VfB Leipzig 7 12:5 13 7 Halberstadt 7 7:4 13 8 Magdeburg 7 9:7 10 9 VfB Auerbach 7 6:4 9 10 FSV Zwickau 7 7:7 9 11 Laubegast 7 7:10 8 12 VfB P??neck 7 8:13 6 13 Oberlausitz 7 5:11 6 14 Sondershausen 7 9:19 4 15 Cottbus (A) 7 8:18 4 16 Dresdner SC 7 5:13 3 17 Erfurt Nord 7 9:21 3 18 Anh Dessau 7 1:21 0
Day 8 Preview (Sep 19 till Sep 21) VFC Plauen - VfB Leipzig FV Dresden-Nord - Sondershausen FSV Zwickau - VfB P??neck Dresden- Laubegast - VfB Auerbach FC Magdeburg - Germania Halberstadt FC Oberlausitz - FC Erfurt-Nord SV 1919 Grimma - FC Carl Zeiss Jena (*) Hallescher FC - Dresdner SC Anhalt Dessau - Energie Cottbus (Am.) (*) As far as the table is concerned, this will prolly be the most interesting game. So far Grimma have only faced one of the teams considered contenders, VfB Leipzig. Leipzig seem in bad shape tho, so it will be interesting to see how they cope with a real opposition such as Jena who have both the best defense and offense.
My team, Magdeburg, will face unbeat Halberstadt at home. This will be ugly. Both teams have a relaively strong defense, but a bad offense. It looks like a draw, maybe a lucky shot could decide it in favor of either team. Magdeburg playing at home should give them an advantage tho.
The results so far:
Day 1 (Aug 1 till Aug 3) Carl Zeiss Jena 4 - 0 FC Oberlausitz Dresden-Laubegast 0 - 3 Dresden Nord FC Erfurt-Nord 0 - 3 VfB Leipzig FSV Zwickau 1 - 1 VFC Plauen Cottbus (Am.) 4 - 1 Sondershausen Halberstadt 1 - 0 Dresdner SC VfB Auerbach 0 - 0 SV 1919 Grimma VfB P??neck 0 - 4 Hallescher FC FC Magdeburg 4 - 0 Anhalt Dessau

Re:Zonenliga Overview, [R] Days 1-7, Preview Day 8 [longish] - 2007/02/04 16:25 they`re composition? Industrial, rural, small town, big town?
On the other hand I know a little more about East Germany than most people (possibly because I have loads of relatives from Saxony and Prussia...) but it would be great to talk about this since our emphasis in the West has always been ex-West Germany.

Re:Zonenliga Overview, [R] Days 1-7, Preview Day 8 [longish] - 2007/02/04 19:35 services..home of Intershop, iirc; I have NO clue as to the size, it`s 100,000+ tho, I think Halle, industrial, 260,000 or so they say, my student buddies say it is boring, has the trouble of being only 25 miles away from Leipzig Grimma..errmm...smaller town i think, no clue as to industry or rural Dresden...well, I`m not gonna say anything about that city, but that it is GREAT Plauen, small town i think, 60sumthing, used to have some industry, or still has Leipzig, nice place, i hear, but ranked behind Dresden which IMHO is the second-greatest place in East Germany (no offence, Potsdam) Halberstadt, small town 25-35,000, sausage factory, that`s where they invented sausages in cans, two important churches, not much industry, tho Magdeburg, 230,000, used to have loads of Heavy Industry, Diesel engines for ships, for example, nowadays biggest industrial employer is a company that produces these windmills that produce electricity (they`re new, but good ) Auerbach, umm...well...errrmmm...must be small, I neva heard of it Zwickau, home of the Trabant, now a VW plant, medium-sized I think, 80,000 or so Laubegast (part of Dresden) P??neck, see Auerbach Oberlausitz, a region, the club is based in Neugersdorf, the name says it all Sondershausen, mining, methinks, at least i think there used to be some Cottbus, home of errmm...errm...Energie Cottbus, heh Erfurt, capital of Thuringia, i dunno much, there`s the State children`s TV station, Ki.Ka (formerly known as KinderKanal) Dessau, on the verge of 100,000, former home of Junkers Aeroplanes, now what is there...oh the new seat of Umweltbundesamt
Happy now?
Seriously, I haven`t seen the current team playing but once... Well, except for two players who have returned to us. They already played in 2001/2, and one of them even beat Bayern I think. Important players are: Burmeister (GK) who will prolly not play as he was injured. Kallnik, D/DM, most experienced (read: old) player at age 28. Prest who is supposedly organizing the defense, at age 22, returned to the club after a dreadful season at Augsburg (methinks) where he didn`t play 1st team footie. Banser, scored 6 goals in this season so far, yet only in 3 games, his effectivity is awful, or so i hear.
Halberstadt`s manager is Lieberam, ex-Dynamo Dresden and FCM who left FCM after some trouble with the manager 4 or 5 years ago. However, he claims this is "just an ordinary game".
