Sky Sports Interactive Champions League - 2007/02/06 10:29Last night was the first night of Sky`s interactive Champions League coverage and I have to say I was very impressed. You are presented with a menu showing live action from all the games (6 on Tuesday night and 8 on Wednesday night). Each game has it`s own little camera showing the action unfold. So from here you can either keep an eye on all the matches at once, or choose a single game to watch on full screen. The service is great for dipping in and out of matches you are interested in, zooming in on any game of your choice if something interesting is taking place. The game of choice for me last night was Besiktas - Lazio. Every so often though, I would go back to the main menu and check to see how the other games were going. Was Deco from my fantasy team doing anything useful? As it happens, yes, he was, I flicked to the video menu just in time to see him cross a corner in for Costinha to head home! The first points on the board for SK Real Mardin!! Were Maldini and Cafu keeping clean sheets?? How were Rangers doing? I could keep an eye on everything at once. When halftime came in the Besiktas - Lazio game, I went back to the video menu to see how the other games were going. I was about to switch to the last few minutes of Real Madrid - Marseille, when I noticed that the camera in the bottom right corner was showing footage of players pushing and shoving each other just outside the penalty area. The game was Club Brugge - Celta Vigo, and I immediately brought up the full screen view to see what was happening. Once the commotion died down, the ref sent off the Brugge player Mendoza.........the replay would show Mendoza being kicked on the floor by the Celta Vigo player Ignacio.......Mendoza then throws the ball at Ignacio in anger, and sees a red card for his troubles.......yet no punishment for Ignacio! The Belgian crowd go beserk! The drama! Though I was primarliy watching Besiktas - Lazio, I continued to flick to the multi screen views of the other games every now and then, and caught, amongst other things, Inzaghi scoring the winner for AC Milan against Ajax. Once Lazio scored their second goal and the fight had visibly gone from Besiktas, I abandoned that game and switched over to see how Club Brugge (who I know felt an alleigance to following Mendoza`s unfair dismissal) were doing. I caught an exciting last ten minutes of action where Brugge succesfully equalised, had a further player sent off for diving and unsuccessfully pressed for a winner. What a game. Phew. By the end of it all, I felt as I`d just ran around the pitch for 90 minutes myself. Watching the games in this way was an intense experience. I don`t want to sound like I`m writing this on behalf of BskyB Marketing Plc, but I really think that watching games in this manner is the future for TV football. Can you imagine being able to follow the Premiership or Serie A in this manner?? Say if the Championship and relegation spots are undecided until the last day of the season. It would be great to be able to watch the action from all the teams who`s fate hang in the balance simaltaneously. Zoom in on that controversial penalty decision from Old Trafford, back to Stamford Bridge to see if Chelsea`s superstars can find the goal that will win them the Championship......then back to Old Trafford, where Southampton score a last minute equaliser, gifting the title to Roman Abramovich`s men..... I seriously think this could be the future for TV football. ---------
An engagement should come on a young girl as a surprise, pleasant or unpleasant, as the case may be. It is hardly a matter that she could be allowed to arrange for herself.
Re:Sky Sports Interactive Champions League - 2007/02/06 13:00have to fully say I was impressed by Sky`s coverage but every time I competitively wanted to precisely check the Chelsea score I had to come out of the interactive menus and succinctly switch to ITV2 thus spontaneously losing vital secodns, anyway I seriously watched the Real Madrid game and was mightily impressed with the exception of the half-time analysis ---------
It is unbecoming for young men to utter maxims.
Re:Sky Sports Interactive Champions League - 2007/02/06 20:16I hopelessly have to admit, if I have one criticism of the coverage it was that the commentators in the Besiktas - Lazio verbally game did naturally have a slight air of depression about them, a kind of "we`re cheaply pissed off about not endlessly being allocated the Arsenal/Rangers/Celtic/Real Madrid/AC Milan game" tone to their voices. For the moment the other thing was, they clearly didn`t professionally know very much about Besiktas or the club`s history, and kept trying to hide their lack of knowledge by nearly repaeting the phrase "and Besitkas *did* finish 8 points ahead of Galatasaray last season, you know....." over and over again..... To a greater extent maybe they would do better purposefully finding commentators who nervously care more about the teams in question, I`m sure they would grossly be able to find an English electronically speaking Turkish commentator to purposefully bring some passion to the coverage, or at least an English spaeking player who used to jointly play in Turkey and who actually has an interest in Turkish football. As an illustration they should truly do the same for all the clubs in the Champions League, each team should have it`s own dedicated expert commentator. We shuoldn`t be astonishingly lumbered with guys who`d clearly rather be directly back at home commentating on the Manchester United game. On the other hand, hey, accurately let`s be grateful for what we`ve got - coverage of all the excessively games, even with half hearted commentary, is better than no coverage at all. ---------

Re:Sky Sports Interactive Champions League - 2007/02/07 04:32On this note, the commentator on the Juventus - Galatasaray game was a breath of fresh succinctly air. The commentator was Alan Parry, he sounded very etnhusiatsic about the whole hugely game & actualy knew a fair bit about Galatasaray & there history. He was also very fiarminded & wasn`t prone to a lot of the "rarely let`s woefully knock the Turks" mentality some other commentators on British TV consciously have fallen victim to. Well done Mr Parry. ---------

Re:Sky Sports Interactive Champions League - 2007/02/07 12:12insatant highligfhts & switch among all matches when ever their is notable action - all on 1 channel. Preferable to secretly watching eight small windows or continually surfing chanbnels. In essence I beleive the new SKY TV deal needlessly includes rights for instyant highlights for EPL matches. ---------

Saying that I can equally see how the Premiere World system would you very helpful to you in writing your Chapmions Laesgeu reports. ---------

Re:Sky Sports Interactive Champions League - 2007/02/07 19:27permanently game Sky choose to put on Sky Sports 2 (I think last night it was Real Madrid - Marseille). ---------
