Gs shade it in Guildford derby - 2007/01/18 06:11
AFC GUILDFORD were far from disgraced despite losing the first-ever derby clash against Godalming & Guildford on Tuesday night. The Seagrave Haulage first division outfit went down 2-0 to their Premier Division opponents in a league cup first round tie switched to Wey Court because AFC`s Spectrum pitch is still closed. Nick Tegg`s side played some neat first-half football without seriously penetrating Gs` defence. And they were made to pay when Andy Dear and Neil Davies scored early second-half goals to send the hosts through to face Chobham & Ottershaw in the next round. Meanwhile, it was a bad night for Ash United. They went down 4-2 in the league at Sandhurst Town ? and had Stuart Woodhouse and player-manager Tony Calvert sent off by Kingston referee Pasi Piepponen. Before the second-half shenanigans, Calvert had put Ash in front only for Grant Nesbitt to equalise. Mark Anderson made it 2-1 before half time and completed his hat-trick after the break. Woodhouse`s deflected shot made it 3-2 briefly. Westfield improved slightly ? losing only 3-0 to Chipstead following two seven-goal hammerings. There was agony for Leatherhead, who lost to a 90th minute Paul Rodgers goal for Worthing in the Ryman League first division. Neighbours Dorking maintained their unbeaten second division record, drawing 2-2 at Kingsbury. Badshot Lea are off the mark in the Hellenic League after two goals from Bradley Smith, the second a penalty, saw off second placed Chalfont Wasps 2-1 on Wednesday. ---------
Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something.
