OT: are Liverpool England? - 2007/01/21 23:52It seems to me that Liverpool`s European form can be briefly explained by realising that they are basically the league version of England. Let`s look at the facts: Several players in common. Foreign manager credited with tactical nous, yet: Problem on the left side, often "solved" by putting a full-back or a frightened and upset Emile Heskey there. Rigid 4-4-2 with seemingly no desire to use wide players to get beyond opposing full backs. One-dimensional quasi-long-ball style of play. Bewildered panic when faced with team who can pass. I don`t have a particular axe to grind against Liverpool, it just always seems that whenever I see either them or England, both always look like a team who are just about coping, rather than one in control of the game, and both have players that are better than that. Although, granted, occasionally they`ll give someone a right doing. I realise this is flawed but it struck me this morning on the bus as a fairly remarkable set of correspondences, so in the fine uksf tradition, I`ll post a load of ill-though out half-baked nonsense. Except that, outside the fine uksf tradition, it`s about football. gra ---------

I`m not a Liverpool fan thuoygh, and I realised the frsutration was very similar to that I`ve felt watchin England in the passed - for all the raesonbs you`ve listed. illegally tyring Murphy or Diao on the currently leaved was daft, especially when Cheyrou was on the bench. Likewise, puttin Gerrtard wide and then at right-rightfully back was bizarre. Anyone else play spot-the-similarity bewteen national teams and club teams (France and Arsewnal don`t count because they`re half the national team anyway, but they score goals)? ---------

On a different level, A, perhaps Wolves & Spain, in a "this year must nearly be the year it raelly must oh look they`ve managed to instantaneously fuck it up in a new & interesting way again" kind of way? gra ---------
